Capacity building of the Partner Organizations (POs) is the one of the major activities of Rural Microfinance Development Centre Ltd. (RMDC). The centre regularly organizes national and international exposure visits for officials of POs. The Philippines is one of the renowned countries for the microfinance practices, so the centre has organized the exposure visit for the CEOs/deputy CEOs of the POs from 21-27 June, 2014. The main coordinator in the Philippines was Microfinance Council of the Philippines (MCPI), it is a networking organization of the MFIs in the country. Altogether 10 officials were part of the team among them nine from POs and one official from RMDC. Team includes Mr. Bharat Raj Dhakal, CEO of Muktinath Dev Bank, Mr. Mani Kumar Arjyal, CEO of Nerude Laghubitta Bikas Bank Ltd., Mr. Bishwa Prakash Prasai, Executive Chairman of NESDO-Nepal, Ms.Rajani Mally, Executive Chairperson of WSC, Ms. Shova Bajracharya, MF Program Chief, Manushi, Mr. Shyam Kant Chaudhary, CEO, Mahuli Microfinance Dev Bank, Mr. Bir Bahadur Adhikari, Executive Chief of Srijana Bikas Kendra and Mr. Batuk Shamsher Shrestha, CEO of Srijana Community Dev Centre, Siraha. Mr. Roop Bahadur Khadka, Manager of RMDC led the exposure visit team.
The team landed in the Philippines on 22nd of June and started with the introductory session of MCPI, focusing on the socio-economic status of the Philippines, microfinance scenario and the activities and programs of MCPI in the Philippines. Later on participant visited one of the center meetings of CARD Bank Inc. which is the member of CARD MRI (Mutually Reinforcing Institution) under the Bay branch at Laguna. After the center meeting visit, there was an interaction with staff at the branch and a presentation on CARD MRI at regional training centre. Next day the participants visited TSPI head office at Makati which is one of the prominent MFI in the country, at the same time participants also took part in the presentation and discussion on various activities of the organisation. Participants visited one of the centre meetings of ASHI, a Grameen bank model replicator at Quezon City. At the end of the visit there was a review meeting at the MCPI office in the presence of President Ms. Mila Bunker and CEO Mr. Allan Sicat, all the participants shared their learning and experiences during the meeting.
After successful completion of the visit the team departed on 27th of June, for Kathmandu via Malaysia. After their return at home the participants expressed their happiness and satisfaction over the arrangements made by RMDC. Participants shared their learning about member targeting, MRI, MIS, policies and regulatory arrangement adopted by the Central Bank, insurance, SME etc during the visit. They acclaimed the learning approaches adopted by MCPI and support provided by other participating institutions in the Philippines such as CARD, TSPI, ASHI and MCPI for making this exposure fruitful and memorable.
