Another ADB funded Community Livestock Development Project (CLDP) has ended successfully on June 2010. The objective of CLDP was to reduce the incidence of poverty in rural communities of the project area. Department of Livestock (DLS) was the executing agency of the project, and it has been responsible for overall implementation of all project activities. RMDC been executing agency for implementation of the microfinance component of the project. A loan of SDR 3,632,000 was available to RMDC through the Government to implement the microfinance activities.
A subsidiary agreement was made between the Government of Nepal and RMDC on October 29, 2004. However, the project has been effective in operation since December 2, 2005.
RMDC has identified a number of FINGOs and SCCs to disburse livestock credit to small farmers. As of July 16, 2010, RMDC has approved loan amounting Rs. 616.6 million and disbursed Rs. 493.1 million to 37 MFIs under the project.
Under the microfinance component, the project aims at creating access of microfinance services to 69,000 farmers where by the end of the project, it has provided microfinance services to 110,000 members which seems very satisfactory.
